Katie

Katie shoots in the mid 80s on a regulation course! She is a talented player.

Here are the reasons we feel Katie would be a deserving recipient of the program honor.

Empower – Katie is regularly chosen at school to speak at assemblies, to speak at informational events to parents, and recently was chosen to lead a group of kindergartners and their parents around the school on an orientation. She is a school patrol for the kiss and ride line at school, and I have been told that the process always runs more smoothly when she is there organizing the pick-ups, sending the students to the right cars more efficiently.

Engage – Katie is a leader in her school’s Green Team. She recently spearheaded a bake sale at her school with the goal of raising money to purchase a water bottle filling water fountain for her school. In a three-hour window, she raised $500. She has put together clips for her school’s morning news show that encourage people to use fewer water bottles and instead use reusable ones. She also submitted a proposal on behalf of the green team to help eliminate excess water dripping from school faucets and was awarded an additional $500 to help their efforts.

Energize – Because Katie has a little brother at home, she naturally looks out for younger players and younger kids around her, encouraging her younger brother while at the driving range and those she plays with in tournaments and matches. She also regularly mentors younger players while on the course and practicing for her PGA Jr League team.

Exercise – In addition to playing golf three or four times per week, Katie currently swims two nights a week and once summer begins, will swim six mornings per week with her summer swim league team. Her favorite stroke is the breast stroke.

Enrich – Katie is enrolled and excelling in the most challenging curriculum offered at her elementary school-the advanced academic program. Next year as a seventh grader, she will be taking two high school courses: Latin 1 and Algebra 1.

In addition to displaying these five E’s, Katie’s other love/passion is for art. She loves to draw and create, not only artistically, but also through baking. She has recently started her own small business, baking mini desserts for a 50 person party and cupcakes for a boys’ birthday party. I am also attaching pictures of her artwork (she decorated free hand two different pairs of converse tennis shoes; she entered a life is good t-shirt design contest; the food pictures are her creations that she has sold as part of this business).
